Smokey has not been feeling well these last few months. He’s been having this terrible cold and although he’s not down totally or his appetite affected.. he has trouble breathing and his nose is getting crusty from all the discharge.
For his last two visits, the vet gave him cold meds, antibiotics and immune boosters. That did the trick and his nose cleared up but then once his antibiotics course was over, his cold came back.
This would be his third visit. Vet said that Smokey is old.. he is 14 this year .. and so he does not want to do any unnecessary test unless it is indeed necessary and as pawparents we agree.
Let’s see what happens today at the vet. Will update soon.

Today at exactly 3pm, our furbaby Aggie crossed the rainbow bridge.
Aggie was diagnosed with kidney failure a week earlier and upon the diagnosis have been treated at the vet with IV drips and immediately placed on renal diet. On 16th August, the vet was satisfied that she was doing much better and armed with her meds and more renal food, Aggie was allowed home with an appointment to see the vet on 22nd August 2012.

Aggie’s trip to the vet |
Once home though, Aggie didn’t want to eat her renal food. She wanted her normal food and it became a challenge to coax her to eat and drink. She would follow me around asking for food and each time I feed her the renal food, she will eat a bit and just walk away. So I had to force feed her each time especially since she still got to take her meds after food.
However, on Sunday, 17th August, she ate her food herself. I was relieved. She slept most of the day.
At 2am in the morning, I fed her and had a few hours of quiet time when I changed her bandages (she had sores on her feet that the vet had attended to and needed bandage change daily). I spoke softly to her telling her how much I love her and that she will survive this and be strong but she need to eat and take her meds. She purred and it seems she was listening. I placed her in her cage after that (she was kept in a cage at night because of the sores and because she was peeing all over the house – kidney patient cats do that).

Aggie loves boxes! |
Me and Azwaj took turns holding her. There were times when it sounded like she stopped breathing but then she gasp for air again. I was changing into fresh clothing (Aggie peed on me) when Azwaj called me and asked me to hold her. The end was near. We could see it and we could feel it. I took her into my arms, spoke to her to let go of the pain and just run free to the other side. It looked then like she looked at me and said her goodbye. She took one last long breath and then she was gone.
I sob, uncontrolled sobbing as she was our baby. We went through her skin eczema, her food allergies and her two eye surgeries and she had always been strong and her spirits high. But this time she was defeated. She was no longer young and she was done fighting. In a way we were glad that she didn’t suffer as long as her sister Anja, who also suffered from kidney failure.
Azwaj buried her alongside Nina, who we lost in July. Aggie was 13 years old.

Pet boarding facilities can be the perfect solution for people who don’t have anywhere to leave their pets when they go on vacation. Perhaps you’re going to a destination where pets aren’t allowed, or maybe you just don’t want to deal with the hassle of taking your pet along with you. Whether you feel like your pet would be more comfortable at a pet boarding facility or whatever the reason you can’t or don’t want to take your pet with you, there are plenty of facilities across the nation where you can learn more about boarding your pet.
Some pet boarding facilities offer pets their own rooms for them to stay in complete with luxury pet beds. Many people fear putting their pets in pet boarding facilities because they’re afraid that their pets won’t have good accommodations. However, not all pet boarding facilities require pets to stay housed in cases close to other pets. There are some pet boarding facilities that offer pets their own luxurious accommodations just like the ones that we would expect for ourselves.
Additionally, just like we enjoy resorts and spas, so do our pets. That’s why some pet boarding facilities come complete with spas for pets that offer pets a variety of washes and grooming services. Nobody wants his or her pampered pooch or spoiled feline to come home dirty. Pet boarding facilities that have a spa on site keep your pets looking and smelling good for their return home. You can even elect to sign your pet up for 15-minute massages at some pet boarding spas and facilities where those services are offered.
Many pet boarding facilities also facilitate socialization of pets. Therefore, they offer group play sessions where pets can play and frolic with one another under the supervision of certified trainers and pet service specialists, of course. Most facilities offer plenty of recreations time and treats to their pet guests as well.
If you want your pet to stay in a resort that is just as luxurious as your own, it is possible to find luxurious pet resorts and spas. Your pet is a member of your family, so you, no doubt, want him or her to be treated as such with a vacation and accommodations as extravagant as your own. Plus, when you place your pet in a luxurious pet boarding facility, you can rest easy in the knowledge that your beloved pet is comfortable and well taken care of.

We’re are not sure when it happened but apparently all the furkids, with exception of Nina, Aggie and Smokey are very scared of loud noises. We did not realise how scared they were until there was a fumigation exercise at our condo area. They were not only scared but actually made scared loud voice like as if telling us to make it stop. Poor babies.. I guess mommy won’t be getting any trombones at guitar center any time soon then eh?

It’s Awal birthday today! Well not quite his birthday but more like his 1st year with us as his forever home and our furkid. Awal, the baby kitten (he was about 2 months by the look of it), came to us one fateful night when Azwaj “met” him on his way to buy butter for my lava cake.
The rest like they say is history. Awal is now a very boisterous young neutered young mancat and is happily being a terror in the bloggercats household and making sure that all the rest of his siblings are getting the exercise they need by chasing them endlessly. The only time when there is peace is when he is sleeping.. Lol.. that’s our Awal!
Happy birthday my darling Awal. Mommy and Daddy and the rest of your sibling (we hope) loves you so much!

Having pets, to me, means you have another member of the family to love. Me and Azwaj will do anything to ensure their well-being. From their own kitty home, to vet visit, to making sure they have the best food for their diet. They are our kids, furkids that is, and yes, we are pawparents.
So it saddens me when they are ill or involved in any incident and we will do anything to make them whole again. When our furkid, Anja got kidney failure, we started feeding her with a special diet meant for kidney patients. We also got her the meds the vets suggested. The bill was exorbitant but the same way you would do anything for a family member, Anja got the best treatment that we can afford till she passed on.
Then Jam Jam fell from our 6th storey service balcony despite all the reinforcement that Azwaj had put up and we were hopeful when she survived the fall but unfortunately due to the complication after her surgery, Jam Jam didn’t only left our heart bare but also our wallet dry after she crossed the rainbow bridge.
Sometimes I wished there was a pet insurance in in Malaysia that we can take up for the furkids. Having 9 furkids now I can’t imagine if two of them have to seek medical help at the same time. I mean cat insurance should be available here already. Something like what E & L insurance is providing. They have all sorts of pet insurance available. From dog to cats, from bird to horse insurance, they have them all, which is pretty awesome. With coverage of up to £6,000 of vet fees, I know that I won’t have to worry about making sure our furkids have the best care available to them. The cat insurance offered by E & L not only cover vet bills, it also covers advertising cost and the cost of a reward should your cat become lost or stolen.
There are basically three kinds of coverage you can choose from : –
- Silver cat insurance – vet’s fees up to £4,000
- Gold cat insurance – vet’s fees up to £5,000
- Diamond cat insurance – vet’s fees up to £6,000
Their pet cat insurance cover also includes: –
- Cattery fees to cover the cost of boarding, personal accident, loss by theft or straying, accidental damage and more
- Cheap cat insurance premiums with up to 25% introductory online premium discount
- 10% multi cat discount when insuring more than one cat
When oh when will we have access to such insurance cover here?
